Running in Vietnam

It is hot year-round in Vietnam – the lows when we were there were 23-25C and humid. I decided our 6-week trip to Southeast Asia might be a good time to rest my legs after one run in Hanoi. So, my one run in Hanoi was around Hoan Kiem Lake. Friday through Saturday the broad road around Hoan Kiem becomes a pedestrian street. One loop around Hoan Kiem lake is a little over 1 kilometer. But the course is flat, there are lots of other runners and if you go in the morning (I was out at about 6:30-7:30 AM), there are gigantic groups of people doing synchronized calisthenics to Vietnamese pop music – it’s worth getting up early just to watch these groups. I met a runner named Wayne from Australia who, as we ran together, told me all about ParkRun, a global virtual run that occurs on Saturday mornings (He volunteers for and manages several ParkRuns in Australia). I look forward to it coming to the SF Bay Area.
